About the Movie
The Aristocats is a 1970 animated film produced by Walt Disney which is based on a story by Tom McGowen and Tom Rowe. According to Oh, My Disney, the story was based on a real family of cats who inherited a fortune in 1910.
The film is set in 1910 in Paris in a lovely mansion owned by Madame Adelaide, a retired opera singer. The plot centers on a family of aristocratic cats who are kidnapped by their owner’s evil butler, Edgar, who wants to do away with them in order to gain his mistress’ fortune.
The Aristocats along with The Jungle Book were the last films to be approved by Walt himself before his death. It is also the first film that was made entirely after Walt’s death. This iconic classic kicked off Disney’s Bronze Age.
The Tablescape
The tablescape is inspired by the lavishly decorated mansion of Madame Adelaide with a sweet pink and cream color scheme in honor of our favorite kitten, Marie.
The table is dressed in a pink tablecloth. Cream china, vintage silver, and Libby Hobstar drinking goblets are used for the place settings. The cream colored linen hemstich napkins are perfectly tied up with a pink bow to give a nod to Marie.
The flowers were my favorite element of the tablescape. We arranged beautiful pink snapdragons in a tall vase with antique crystal goblets on either side featuring two shades of pink roses. The light pink roses were quite lovely.
The Menu
We created a light and vibrant tasting menu inspired by the flavors of France for our Aristocats Disney dinner. Get our recipes below.
French Cheese & Fruit Board
With so many tasty choices, a cheese board is the perfect way to begin a dinner. We opted to serve three French cheeses along with baguette, crackers, raspberry preserves, fruits, and almonds. Get our step-by-step tutorial and ideas for creating your own cheese board here
Spring Greens with Berries, Brie, Pecans and maple Vinaigrette
This vibrant berry & brie salad is a crowd favorite! It is loaded with fresh berries, cubes of brie, rich pecans, and a delicious maple-balsamic vinaigrette. In the fall, substitute apples or pears with gorgonzola and walnuts. You can get our recipe here.
Spinach Artichoke Heart Quiche
This delicious quiche is flavorful yet simple. The spinach and artichoke hearts pair beautifully with rich goat cheese. You can easily adapt the quiche based on your own tastes. We like using this highly versatile quiche recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
Trio of French Desserts
French desserts are absolutely decadent! For this menu we featured three mini desserts inspired by the kittens: mini eclairs topped with pink buttercream, bite-size cream puffs filled with fresh whipped cream sliced strawberries, and berry tartlets created with a creamy vanilla custard and topped with juicy berries. Get the recipes below.
Marie's Mini Eclaires
There is nothing like fresh pastry! These eclairs have a pink twist in honor of Marie. These delicious mini creations are filled with fresh cream and topped with pink buttercream, tiny white flowers, and iridescent sanding sugar. They are dainty and delightful just like Marie! Get our tutorial to make your own mini eclairs here.
Toulouse's Strawberry Cream Puffs
Toulouse, the most playful of the three kittens, wants to meet tough alley cats and is known for puffing up and trying to act tough. What better dessert to honor his character than the cream puff! These mini cream puffs are filled with fresh whipped cream and juicy sliced strawberries. We like this recipe and tutorial from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
Berlioz's Berry Tartlets
Berlioz is a pianist. He isn’t easily impressed and can be easily annoyed. He has dark gray fur, blue eyes, and a red bow so we created some fancy little tartlets with vanilla custard, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. We think he would approve! Get our super easy tartlet recipe here.
Creme de la Creme a la Edgar
Edgar carries out his ill intentions of catnapping Duchess and the kittens by lacing Creme de la Creme a la Edgar with sleeping pills. Our version of Creme de la Creme a la Edgar is a decadent concoction of warm milk flavored with sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla sans sleeping pills. It’s similar to hot chocolate, perfectly smooth, rich, and irresistible. Get the recipe here.
